Does Slack stay active when the phone app closes?

No: leaving or closing the Slack mobile app can set your availability to away. This applies to iPhone and Android. Staying signed in and receiving background notifications is not the same as staying active. There is no Slack phone setting that permanently locks the green dot on.

How to appear active on iPhone or Android

Open Slack and keep it in the foreground while you are using it. You can also set yourself active from your profile menu if you previously chose away. That is a temporary availability change, not a way to disable Slack’s activity detection. Returning to another app or closing Slack can change it again.

Will leaving the screen on keep Slack green?

Keeping Slack visible is a device-dependent workaround, not an always-on guarantee. It consumes battery and prevents normal use of other apps. Locking the phone, losing connectivity, or closing Slack can interrupt it. Disabling battery optimization should not be presented as a reliable background-presence fix.

Do background notifications or a green Z mean online?

A push notification means Slack can deliver an alert to your phone; it does not prove the app is foregrounded or your availability is active. The Z or snooze icon means notifications are paused. Resume notifications separately if you want alerts; that does not keep your presence active.

Can desktop Slack keep me active while my phone is closed?

An active desktop session can supply activity without the phone app being open. But desktop Slack normally marks you away after 10 minutes of desktop inactivity.
